Temperature rating by fan model

The basic galvanised chimney fan operates at a maximum flue gas temperature of 300°C, requiring a cable rated to at least this temperature at the fan end junction. The professional AISI 304, copper and Corten models are rated for 700°C continuous operation — the temperature experienced at the fan housing during a flue fire — and require the higher-specification cable supplied with those models. Using a 300°C cable on a 700°C-rated fan voids the manufacturer's guarantee and creates a fire risk at the cable entry point.

Cable routing options

Gemi cables can be routed externally down the chimney stack face using stainless steel cable clips spaced at 500 mm intervals, or internally through the flue using the liner gap in a twin-wall insulated liner installation. External routing is the standard approach for single-wall clay flue and masonry chimney installations; internal routing is used where planning restrictions require no visible external cabling on a listed or conservation-area building.

Cables are supplied in standard lengths of 5 m, 10 m and 15 m to cover the most common stack heights from two-storey to tall Victorian terrace chimneys. Longer lengths are available to order. The cable is supplied with pre-fitted fan-end terminations compatible with all current Gemi fan models.
