Electric fence tensioner

Correct wire tension is essential for an effective electric fence: a sagging conductor rests on vegetation, creating earth contact that drains energiser output and reduces the pulse voltage reaching animals at the end of the fence. Gemi Elettronica supplies in-line tensioners and ratchet straining handles designed to bring polywire, tape and rope to the correct operating tension and maintain it as the conductor stretches or contracts seasonally. Gemi tensioners are sold in packs sized for typical installation requirements. The correct tensioner for each conductor type is listed in the Gemi product catalogue. Order direct for factory pricing and UK delivery in 24–48h.

In-line tensioners for permanent fences

In-line tensioners are installed at intervals along the fence and at each strainer post to take up slack without requiring the end anchors to be repositioned. Each tensioner incorporates a threaded or ratchet adjustment mechanism that allows tension to be increased incrementally by hand. The body material maintains insulation between the conductor and the post, so the tensioner does not introduce an earth path at the point of installation.

Ratchet straining handles

A ratchet straining handle temporarily increases tension during initial installation — after posts are driven and insulators are fitted but before the permanent tensioners are set to their final position. The ratchet mechanism holds the conductor under load while the operator moves to the next tensioner point, avoiding the need for a second person to maintain tension at the straining post.

Conductor compatibility

Gemi tensioners are available in variants for polywire in all cross-sections, electric fence tape in 20 mm and 40 mm widths, and braided rope. Correct jaw geometry for each conductor type ensures the tensioner grips without cutting through the outer sheath or individual conductor strands, which would create a resistance hot-spot at the tensioner body.

Questions and Answers
The basic model has a suction capacity of 2500 m³/h, a 3-year warranty and can withstand up to 300 degrees. The professional model can withstand up to 700 degrees (therefore also in case of a chimney fire) and is recommended if you have a chimney of less than 3 meters. It also has a 6-year warranty and sucks in 3800 m³/h. The steel model is built entirely in Aisi 304 stainless steel, a material that ensures greater resistance to corrosion and saltiness and therefore over time. It has a suction power of 3800m³/h and a resistance of up to 700°, guaranteed for 8 years. The top of the range offered by Gemi is the professional copper model, resistant up to 700°, with a 10-year warranty and capable of sucking up 3800 m³/h. The stainless steel fan resists corrosion and saltiness. It is fully painted on the outside (including the base) and is therefore suitable for those looking for a more aesthetically pleasing product.
Our electric smoke extractor has a 6-speed regulator, so you only need to set it to speeds of 1-2 to help extract smoke naturally, but not heat. Basically, at the first two speeds, we are not altering in any way the normal operation of a fireplace, which would normally disperse a very small amount of heat in the smoke rising in the flue pipe. The Gemi chimney fan sucks up the smoke that would otherwise go into the house and therefore, certainly, would not produce any heat sources for the indoor environment. It is clear that if the chimney fan does not operate at the sixth speed (usually at this speed it is used to change the air in rooms, to help start fires or to suck up the ashes), with its 2500m³/h(basic) - 3800m³/h(pro) it will be so powerful that it will also suck up the heat, because it will increase the speed of combustion of the wood and consequently partially reduce the heat. Scientific studies have shown that the Gemi smoke extractor can control heat loss, so it is advisable to use a chimney to prevent heat loss. This can be seen in the millions of satisfied customers all over the world since 1983, when the first Gemi chimney fan was created.
The base of the electric chimney fan is standard 43x43 cm, the height is 35 cm, without the brackets. Considering the brackets it is 50 cm. For more specific measurements, a diagram showing the measurements of each individual part of the electric fireplace extractor fan is available on our website.
The function of the smoke extractor is to regulate the draught of the chimney, in order to solve the problem of smoke in the chimney, oven, stove, barbecue and to reproduce the natural draught of the chimney.
The assembly of the chimney smoke extractor is do-it-yourself. Watch the tutorial video on the product sheets to assembly the chimney fan. If you encounter problems with the installation of the extractor fan, you can ask for the help of an electrician or a bricklayer. If you have any doubts about the installation of the product (e.g. connection of wires, speed regulator, etc.) our specialist technicians will be at your disposal via email, chat or telephone.
If you have a square chimney with a pipe of the same height as the masonry, you must first close the gap between the pipe and the masonry and then install the chimney fan directly on the masonry. Similarly, if the pipe is only a few centimeters (or inches) high, the pipe must be brought to the same height as the masonry. In this situation you have to buy the model of chimney fan with square base, adjustable also for rectangular chimney.
It is possible, but you have to consider the dimensions of the chimney fan. The installation of the smoke exhauster can be done in two ways: eliminating the cap of the chimney and then installing the chimney fan, or inserting inside the chimney the chimney smoke extractor, ordering in this case the smoke extractor without the cap.
Yes, it is possible. There are two ways to make the electrical connection: with the 3 x 1.5 cable (to be run outside the chimney up to the speed regulator) in order to extend the first metre attached to the chimney fan. Or you can make an internal connection to the chimney with our high-temperature resistant cable, which you can purchase separately by selecting the desired quantity in the drop-down menu according to how many meters you need.
There is no time limit. The chimney smoke extractor can work all day without any problem.
The professional fan for fireplaces can be installed at any height, even on flues of 1 meter. On the other hand, the basic model of the chimney fan is recommended for chimneys over 3 m high.
